Started out our day pretty early and decided to settle for Kuang Heng chicken rice, which is just opposite our hotel, because I forgot where was Kaiton chicken rice.. Stupid me, because the chicken rice at Kuang Heng sucks.
We had a hard time locating Roast cafe as we've all never been there before. Spent such'a long time on the cab but thankfully, we had a really kindhearted cabbie who continuously asked around for directions because we refused to walk on the somehow unsafe and secluded streets in that area. When we finally found the cafe, the cabbie cheered together with us! I guess he was probably down on his luck to have picked up 4 troublesome passengers.. Anyways, we saw on their menu that they're gonna shift soon, so do take note!
We didn't really order much as we had chicken rice earlier on, so we shared the mains and desserts. The coffee wasn't really to my liking because it was too bitter.. However, our Roast Breakfast was too damn good!!! Everything about that dish was just cooked to perfection, perhaps excluding the toast. Our strawberry waffle dessert was amazing as well, and the strawberries were rather sweet. We were all full of praises for the food there and we will definitely definitely definitely return back here again, no matter how long our cab ride is gonna be, or how hard it'd be to locate the new venue of the cafe again.
Such a pity that BOYY cafe was closed for renovation and we spent another good 1hour finding the place, and we decided to head over to Union Mall for some shopping after feeling awfully uneasy walking on the streets by ourselves. So that means our cafe hopping session ended at Roast Cafe, unfortunately.. But I'll undoubtedly continue hunting for more cafes the next time I go to BKK again.
Had Ice Manias and Freshy Crepe in the midst of shopping. They've lots'a good and recommended food over at Union Mall but we didn't get to try them all, so maybe next time!
At Ice Manias, we got to choose our ice cream flavor, 2 mixers, and one topping to be drizzled on top of your creation. It was super yummy! I chose chocolate ice cream, oreo & banana, and caramel topping - everything I love in a cup.
After ice cream, we also wanted to try their crepe as we saw quite a number of shoppers eating it, and so we succumbed to temptation. BUT there were no regrets as it was also delicious! We decided to have something savory after consuming a great deal of sweet snacks. Ever since I've eaten the crepe, I crave for savory crepes so badly but I've yet to satisfy my cravings.. It was a good break though, resting our aching feet and having good food.
Bought tako balls and banana prata again before our massage because we were weak and couldn't resist the fragrance of food in the air.
After our massage, we cabbed to Chinatown for T&K seafood. I used to have curry crab every single night when I stayed in a boutique hotel in Chinatown once. They were so addictive, tempting, enjoyable, and most importantly, cheap! I feel that the curry crab at T&K is hands down the best that I've ever eaten, probably even way better than Somboon Seafood. We ordered the tomyum soup as well and it was tasty.. Ok basically any food is good at T&K imo. The birds nest was kinda bland though, we should've ordered from the roadside stalls instead.
Regardless where I'm at, I prefer roadside stalls/street food compared to restaurants. Sure, there might be some really good restaurants but don't y'all realize that the food at hawker centers or night markets taste about 100 times better??!?!?!! Some of you may beg to differ, but this is just my personal preference.
Oh.... how I miss Bangkok already.
Signing off,
Vinez, xx
