Went for a short getaway to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, together with my cousin. It was quite an impromptu trip as I booked the flights just 1 or 2 days after I arrived back in Singapore from my BKK trip.
Caught a glimpse of the pretty sky.. Views like these just makes me feel so relaxed.
Bought our SIM cards the minute we arrived at the airport, but I think it wasn't a good decision of doing so as you can get cheaper SIM cards outside of the airport. Oh well, I'll just take note of that the next time round I'm there. My dad drove us to fill our tummies as it was breakfast time then. We had one of Vietnam famous dishes - Banh Cuon Nong! I've never appreciated Vietnamese food but I'm learning and also exposing myself to more delicacies. & I've gotta say, except for the beansprouts and veggies that I hate, the whole meal was pretty good!
My dad is temporarily living in Vietnam for work purposes, so he rented a condo there. Drove back home and freshen up before heading out. Met with one of my cousin's friend, RongSheng, as he was also there in Vietnam and we went shopping together.. Visited the Ben Thanh market as well as Saigon Square 1/2. We weren't familiar so we took a cab from Saigon Square to Ben Thanh market, and we realized that they were just diagonally opposite each other. Oh my God, we must have seemed like fools to the cabbie.
We shopped for a truckload of local snacks at the market. Late lunch was on RS, and we settled down at The Sushi Bar, which was located somewhere near RS's hotel. The food was pretty meh but we ordered some cheesy sushi which was my favorite of the lot.
Slept in the car while we were heading to our dinner location as I barely had enough sleep before my flight. Anyway, my dad brought us to M.O.B Beer Club for dinner. The drinks in Vietnam are dirt cheap, so be prepared to see me drinking almost every day. Alright so... the ambience at our dinner location was so magical and nice. The reason why it felt magical was because I walked into the place half asleep, and seeing all the lights just made it seemed so surreal.
We over ordered as usual, but still managed to clear the food in no time. Partly also because the food was yummy, especially the beef steak!
We went to a small roadside stall for fresh seafood as we didn't wanna head back home. I guess Vietnam is known for their fresh seafood because all of the seafood that I ate throughout the trip was so fresh!!! Ordered some beer to go along with our seafood. My favorite out of all was the one in small little black shells as it was cooked with garlic and butter, and it just smelt so fragrant. Mmmmm... Apologies as I don't know the names of all the seafood!
Considering that the night was still early, my dad brought us to a rooftop bar and it had rather amazing views of the city. He opened a bottle of whisky but I really really hate whisky. Nevertheless, we had a great time enjoying the music and drinking.
